Ellesmere nasce da un'idea di Roberto Vitelli, bassista e chitarrista della prog band italiana Taproban. In contrasto col sound energico di questi ultimi, con gli Ellesmere Vitelli si focalizza su un approccio acustico e sinfonico al tempo stesso, realizzando un'impressionante suite di 40 minuti nello stile dei primi Genesis e di Anthony Phillips (quello di "The Geese and the Ghost").

Come suggerito dal titolo, ogni sezione della suite è dedicata ad uno degli antichi castelli francesi che risiedono lungo il fiume della Loira. Passaggi acustici, classici e arpeggi di chitarra a 12 corde fanno da base a meravigliose melodie di archi e flauto (John Hackett è ospite in quasi tutti i brani), e un Mellotron vintage originale è fonte di ulteriori orchestrazioni. La lista degli ospiti speciali include anche Daniele Pomo (RaneStrane) alla batteria e alle percussioni, e il maestro Luciano Regoli (Raccomandata con ricevuta di ritorno, Samadhi) ha contribuito con multiple armonie vocali su quattro pezzi. Ciliegina sulla torta: la rara e speciale presenza dello stesso Anthony Phillips nelle vesti de Il Narratore.

Lo stupendo dipinto di copertina è stato appositamente realizzato per questa release da Luciano Regoli.

Ellesmere is the brainchild of Roberto Vitelli, bass & guitar player from Italian prog band Taproban. As opposite to the bombastic sound of the band, with Ellesmere Vitelli focuses on an acoustic and yet symphonic approach, delivering a stunning 40-minute suite much in the style of early Genesis and Anthony Phillips works (ref. The Geese and the Ghost).

As the title suggests, every section of the suite is dedicated to one of the ancient French castles that reside along the Loire river. Several acoustic, classical and 12 strings arpeggiato guitar layers are topped with beautiful strings and flute melodies (John Hackett is guesting on most of the tracks) and an original vintage Mellotron provides further orchestration. Special guests also include Daniele Pomo from RanestRane on drums and percussion, and vocals master Luciano Regoli (Raccomandata con ricevuta di ritorno, Samadhi) added multitrack vocal armonies on four songs. The icing on the cake is a very special and rare feature by Anthony Phillips himself as The Narrator.

The stunning cover artwork was especially created for the album by Luciano Regoli.

Good modern prog albums are a rare beast in my eyes so this was a nice discovery. This album is very layered yet crisp sounding. Not exactly heavy but delightfully dense. Among other things the vocals are not someone's Dad doing their worst Roger Waters impression but are actually, quite good and give the music its own identity. I especially like the performance on Suli's rise. The songs flow really well and there's a lot of extremely ambitious playing. Also bonus points for church organ. impressivelad
